    Default Recapping some JBL L50 - who/where?

    Hi,

I recently aquired some JBL L50.
    Sound great.

But i am ware they ate around 35+ years old.

Would benefit from a recap and L pad clean?
They do sound very good and clear to me.

The previous owner from new never did anything except have tne woofers professionally refoamed.

Anyone know of anyone in tne east midlands who can do this?

    Thank you

Have you considered doing the recap yourself?

In the last week I recapped some ancient kefs, I've never recapped anything before and the speakers now sound stunning.

Just get to the crossovers, read what is there, source new ones, solder in and job done.

Best to take a photo of the crossover and post It here. If there are electrolytics In the crossover, you will need to take the ESR Into consideration If you Intend on replacing them with film caps.

I know that Paul from Reference Fidelity Components has written quite detailed advice on this subject, so It would be well worth doing a search.

    Thanks for the replies
Unfortunatly, diy out of the question.
    Eyesight too rubbish i’m afraid.

It isn’t exactly urgent as they sound very good. Surprisingly so.
But, at so e point i’d like them done by someone who knows what they ate doing, as i’d like to keep these.

I do recommend you contact Paul at RFC. Perhaps him just doing the recap is mot to expensive.

But then again perhaps there is someone near you who can do as well. That was anyway your original idea. Good luck.

I can't help where the East Midlands is concerned I'm afraid but I do have a couple of excellent engineers in the North West, one in particular.
