I'D like to try these if they can be used as a direct substitute to my ECC83's in my EAR834 clone.

Personally unless you know that they can be substituted I would avoid using them as direct replacements for an ECC83. They may need two pins joining, or the heater voltage is half the usual or something like that, I forget exactly what, though they are suitable in some applications.
Unfortunately they are not a direct equivalent Andy.
Pin 9 on the ECC83 is the heater centre tap, pin 9 on the 6N2P is a shield between valve halves.

I'm Tony.
There are adapters to use this as replacements for 12AX7s.
Are these the black cap or crome top variety? Its hard to tell from the pics..

I think using adaptors still leaves the heater voltage issue, unless connecting two pins splits the 12v into 2x6v. I didn't know about the chrome/ black top difference, they look shiny chrome to me, what's the best way to tell?
Thanks Alan for the clarification. Sorry Lawrence, GLWTS.
