Default Caiman SEG Dac Sound Signature Modes

    Hi Folks,

I recently acquired a Caiman SEG Dac (with supercaps upgrade) and just wondering if anyone could explain to me in simple layman's terms the differences between the different Sound Signature Modes?

Also, which of the modes do people prefer and why?

Any help / insights greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

For me this setting works best in case of toslink from xbox one and usb from computer: "Two LED blinks = Mode-2 = PLL clock processing mode"

Hi all. I was going to start the very same thread, having just bought a SEG from Mikeyb on this forum. Haven't fiddled around yet, but I read a review a while back of the Audiolab 8200, which also has different settings/ filters and the basic differences were explained in the review. Can anyone do this for the SEG please? Maybe Stan the legend?

The 4 modes are listed in the manual, but in any case here they are...

Think I had it set on 4, but it's easy/quick to do and have a listen and decide for yourself

Thanks Mike. Yes, they're in the manual, but a) whats their general timbre, ie, what am I listening for and b) I've got no idea what modes 1,2 and 3 mean in electrical terms. Or, do I just suck it and see? Thanks again for a perfect transaction, by the way!

Yeah I reread the op and realised the manual was not what was wanted, I just tried each one and settled on 4. But I know others have used other modes, think depends on ear and setup.

No worries about the deal, thanks for buying it.

3 is a clock recovery from the data stream.
    pll is phase-locked loop
    xtal is a crystal oscillator.
take it the first is using the sidif 's own clock.

    em, i think lol

A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

Thanks Grant, but none the wiser. I get that the first option is the player's clock output, the next two are a complete mystery and I guess the last one is the original signal re clocked by the DAC?
