    Default High Sensitivity Speakers

    Anyone have any recommendations?

The Unison Research Simply Italy I have is remarkable with the SM100’s but wondered if I could squeeze a little more performance with a more sensitive, valve friendly speaker?

Not looking for vintage - new or mint ex dem/secondhand okay.

    Budget around £1,500......

I have another model in this range using the Alnico full range driver, but his looks to meet your requirements.

    https://www.divineaudio.co.uk/omega-...-speakers-pair

95 db rating and easy to drive even with SETs.

    Geoff,

Thanks for the message. I have seen these on Devine Audio's website and they do look intriguing. I have never owned a pair of speakers with an Alnico Driver.

Can I ask which you own and how would you describe the sound please?

    Thanks,

    Rob

Alnico is just the material that the magnet is made from. I'm not sure it's different enough from ceramic or any other magnetic material to be significant when there are so many other variables in the mix, eg. cone material, cone mass, suspension material, suspension mass, compliance, coil inductance, etc. etc. etc. I think in this instance the word alnico is just being used as marketing tool.

I bought mine direct from the Louis (Mr Omega) on a visit to the US. Mine are a custom design (effectively, the Super7 monitor with the Alnico driver upgrade).

Sound: fast, detailed, dynamic, weighty. In some respects, similar to my Maggies, but much, much, much easier to drive. The Alnico driver adds a visceral presence to the midrange which really works well and a surprising slam to bass. Imaging is top notch, with a very wide hotspot due to the cabinet design and the point source driver.

Oh, and they beautifully finished with a 10 year guarantee.

Definitely worth looking at then. Someone on ebay is selling a pair of the floorstanding version for £1,300: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Omega-Jun...IAAOSw401aPOGa

A good price, but with the standard drivers no the Alnico types. I heard both drivers in identical cabinets at the Omega factory and all I can say is that I stumped up for the Alnico drivers.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

ou might slip, you might slide, you might
Stumble and fall by the road side
But don't you ever let nobody drag your spirit down
Remember you're walking up to heaven

Don't let nobody turn you around
… Walk with the rich, walk with the poor
Learn from everyone, that's what life is for
And don't you let nobody drag your spirit down
