Default Oh yes, ebay again !

Last week I decided to sell my Denon DL103 cartridge, Dynavector P75 phono stage and an Arturia Beatstep sequencer on ebay. I was slightly pissed off when ebay told me I couldn't sell anything unless I set up an automatic payment scheme with Paypal. So, I set up the automatic payment, listed and sold all three items and received payments. I then paid my ebay fees at around £65 and severed my automatic payments through Paypal to ebay. I will NOT allow ebay to have uncontrolled access to my bank account through Paypal for any damn reason. I am currently waiting to see what ebay say to me next.

if you cancelled them at bank then they would have to take u to court if they want funds which is unlikely

A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

I dont understand why you are so frightened Shaun. The Paypal fees will be instantly deducted and ebay will invoice you for their fees on their invoice date. If you dont pay the invoice they will take you to court as any business would. they usually deduct that invoice from the bank account mandate given. I see you have paid the fees.

They need to know people have a fast access account because its part of the proof that you are a viable customer

They dont debit your account when you are inactive as a selller. An invoice amount will be zero on their records. I will always sell again sometime so I dont mind if they have my details for buying and selling. They are not unaccountable and they claim money due based on the mandate

Im not a one man defender of ebay but try setting up a site which attracts worldwide attention, some sort of 3rd party monitoring and protection for buyers/sellers and not charge any fees. If somebody doesnt like the fees then dont use them

I use one bank account for online purposes. There is purposely damn all in it if somebody hacks ebay or itunes and tries to raid my account.

I bet you have a direct debit with the electricity company and they just provide a service as ebay does. Any company with a direct debit mandate has access to your account but they abide by the direct debit scheme and errors are put right

Ebay are not perfect but I do think they get a bashing. Imagine trying to monitor millions of transactions. As a collector ebay have saved me hundreds of pounds compared with buying from dealers with their own site.

Ive never had a problem like that with ebay in over 1700 transactions. The only problems Ive had is with a few buyers and sellers but ebay have sorted everything that could possibly be sorted.

Unless you owe them money, what makes you think eBay will say anything?

I have getting on for 7000 feedback (i.e. ebay transactions) over a decade and more and I have never had an issue with the auto-payment Paypal system.

My issue was just that ebay would not allow me to list anything unless I first agreed to set up an automatic payments scheme with Paypal.

I think the point being made is that it is perfectly okay to do this. I can understand your caution but this sort of thing is now the norm and it works fine except in 1 of 1 million cases. I had 2.5K taken out of my account by credit card that was attached to the account via direct debit. £500 at a time over 2 months. It was only on the fifth transaction that the bank alerted me. I got the money back with no hassle.
