Default WTD - Sony ES range amplifier

Thinking of trying out one of these well regarded amplifiers. I remember lusting after the 730ES that Oliver (Bigman80) sold some time ago but couldn't really go for it back then. I'd be keen on one of those or maybe a 770 or 707 for the right price. Anyone looking to move on one of these?

Ooooh. Yes, twas a very good amp indeed. Widen your search to one of the classic Sansui like the 919 etc. Also remarkable.

Thanks fellas. Always try to keep an open mind about things.
I think that gorgeous Luxman might be pushing the budget a bit as would the Sansui looking at prices being asked. Would have to move on some other bits for that. Jamie I'll send you a PM.

    Cheers.

What's so special about the Sony ES range?

I have a Sony AV unit (TAVA8ES) and am curious if this is based on the ES stereo range? Certainly it sounds wonderful in 'direct stereo' mode. The transformers etc are massive.

    Sorry for semi-hijacking this thread.

The engineers put a bit more effort in than with the bog-standard Sony stuff, seems to be about the only thing you can say. No-one really knows what 'ES' even stands for, even Sony are not sure.
    Current Lash Up:

    TEAC VRDS 701T > Sony TAE1000ESD > Krell KSA50S > JM Labs Focal Electra 926.
