It's the idea that a bit of glamour means men will get 'the wrong idea' about women that makes me laugh the most.

Here is a post from a similar thread on another forum:

No one is trying to stop you finding women attractive, it is about trying to move away from thinking that is ALL they are for.

So let's try to control what people think by banning things? If anyone thinks that is logical or sensible my advice is to sit down for ten minutes and think about the ramifications.

The second thing that grinds my gears is the underlying arrogance. This bloke obviously considers himself completely immune to being guided in how to think but he assumes that he is special and that most other men are not so smart and will immediately start treating women as nothing but sex objects as soon as they see a picture of a glamour model in a bikini.

A very odd way of looking at the world. Dangerous, too.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Yeah you are swinging me around. Im not trying to ban things. All I was saying was that when the camera cuts away to two models walking about I wonder if it is needed at a sports event like darts.

Sometimes they just seem out of place and its seems a bit tacky. I was watching two fat blokes throw arrows and suddenly its model appreciation time.

I think there is a time and a place for that sort of thing

It's social pressure from other people. All that really matters is what you think. If you'd never been aware of other folk's thoughts, would your views have become what they are now?

It is a bit tacky I suppose. But what's really wrong with that? All part of life's rich tapestry as far as I'm concerned.

I do see the points you are making. I am probably in the majority middle ground that didnt call for anything to be done. I appreciate a good looking woman and I didnt get upset or anything. I am playing a bit of devils advocate.

I get confused with information that comes from both sides. I sort of wouldnt want my daughter doing that sort of thing but would actually defend her right to choose. I dont have a daughter which might say a lot. I would just have wanted more middle ground where perhaps national newpapers couldnt publish topless pictures but regulated magazines could. I wouldnt want my daughter getting covered in tattoos but would secretly admire her courage and freedom in the way she wants to live life. Are any of us really free? Ive a sense that only the dead go free

Ive seen the women who seemed to be forced into prostitution through abuse and drugs when I was helping in a Manchester day centre. So it is a question of context when trying to protect people

I accept that the darts girls are not really on that scale of nude modelling or prostitution

I think that the whole PC thing is probably taking over and its not just a black and white issue. I do see what you are saying

Many workers including me prostitute our services by the definition "a person (such as a writer or painter) who deliberately debases his or her talents (as for money)"

Ive been objectified and sometimes I found it pleasant. On the flip side I know what its like to be used and cheated. Thats life I suppose.

So yeah most people are probably on the fence and just trying to get through life
    Best wishes
    Martin
