“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

That has come up pretty fine, Top job man. Regardless of whether you prefer it to the Rock or not you've got a totally classic bit of Japanese design at its finest and in beautiful condition.

Really interesting, as I am not in general a fan of Jap or any other direct drive turntables I have to say that is about the best looking one I have ever seen, congratulations. I have a Rock Elite also which is being re-worked as we speak with a DC motor/regulator/PSU, a version of spring bellow feet and an unusual twin pivot arm job which I am hoping with lift the performance somewhat, although in stock form it sounds very good too.

    hi alan,
nothing major to report, the 590 is running flawlessly and sounding very good with the zeta.if you can get one id recommend it .
i have a tenuto mat on order for the 590 which im keen to try,the only other thing im considering is a panzerholz tonearm board, either on its own or under the pioneer's aluminum plate.

A new addition for the pioneer plc-590 arrived from japan today, purchased from ebay seller realdeal*japan.
It arrived safely with no problems.
So i now have the tonearm that was designed to be the top option for my turntable when new, the pioneer PA-5000. very very rare

All i can say is its bloody huge! i thought the zeta was big but this thing is much bigger,it looks expertly machined and weighs a ton.

effective length is 250mm with a mounting distance of 236,it also has vta on the fly which is a nice touch.

close up of the arm showing the quality of the engineering.

to get a sense of scale, look how it compares to my dear old alphason
