    some more fiddling tonight lol
the manual says there is no need to oil as it uses oil-less bearings,so i just had to have a look.
what i found is the normal cup and ball bearing, the bearing sits on a white hard disc (delrin? ).
the bearing sleeve in the picture is also dry.
now i can see perhaps that the delrin doesn't need oil but surely the sleeve and cup need some,if only a small drop,
or should i repeat a thousand times till it sinks in, 'pioneer designed the bearing like this, they know what they are doing, leave the bloody thing alone'.

Great job from Steve there with the aluminium button Jamie - super.

Did you ever consider a nice piece of Ebony for the tonearm board Jamie ? would have been a great way to go in my experience - looks and particularly sonics where every little helps

Panzerholz - yep ! A pig to work with apparently but excellent as an application in terms of hifi - plinths, armboards, record weights and the like
