    Default Greetings from Evanston-

    Greetings Friends-

Very glad to finally introduce myself after 7 years of reading.
A cold winter morning here on the shores of Lake Michigan.
Fortunately our classical FM(!) station, WFMT, is sounding very good
on both my BWBroadcasting RBRX1 and Dynaco FM tube tuner.
Waiting in the wings is an Audio Consulting battery powered SL1200
armed with a new Ortofon SP#1s. Jeffrey Jackson and Dave Slagle built
my phono and volume attenuators, and Jeffrey put together a 4E27 amp
from delicious leftovers. Altec and JBL phenolic diaphragms dominate the
horn stack which longs for a 60Hz replacement of the 3cuft TAD 15”
    loaded sealed boxes.

Lyric Opera, CSO, Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University,
and an amazing avant-guard jazz and experimental scene at Constellation
provide weekly live satisfaction. Vintage Vinyl is our premiere collector
    venue in town.

    Very best to all, Mats

    Hello Mats. Welcome to AOS.

Sounds like an interesting system you have there. Some photos in our Gallery would be welcome.

Tell us what future plans if any you may have for your Hi-Fi.

    Enjoy the forum,
    Geoff.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

    Enjoy the forum,
    Geoff.
    Thank you Geoff-

    Glad to be here!
A gallery posting will be a good challenge.
Upper bass detail is the next project.
    I’m hoping a well designed 60, 70 or 80Hz
straight horn may provide a solution.

    Cheers, Mats

    Thank you Grant-

I’ll post some more details about Serge Schmidlin’s battery mod.
To me, it seems to have helped the 1200’s ability to negotiate
those most complex passages in Mahler and Bruckner.

Welcome Mats. Great area you live in. Chicago has such a great jazz and blues scene. Hope you're able to take advantage of that on occasion. We're overdue for a visit there again soon -- need a Chicago blues fix.

    Cheers,
    Svend

    Thank you Svend-

Are you like me, a Scandinavian left behind here in North America?
Constellation-Chicago is beyond amazing for progressive Jazz.
Green Mill more classic, and often features Patricia Barber on Monday nights.
Please check in if you’re coming down this way.

    Cheers, Mats

    Hi Mats,

No, not left behind . Born in Canada to German mother, father of Danish heritage. Grew up on the prairies, now living near Toronto.

The Chicago jazz scene is fantastic. So many great clubs. Haven't been to a club there in years, now long overdue for another visit. I might be coming down on business at some point this spring, and will tap into your local's knowledge when I do. Thanks for the offer.

Last time we took in a jazz act there, my wife was 7 months pregnant with our eldest daughter. It was Christmas season, and cold out. Went to a club with a hot act, long line outside on the sidewalk to get in, place was packed. Female doorman (doorperson?) spotted my clearly pregnant wife as we walked up toward the club, grabbed her by the arm and said "You two are coming with me!", whisked us inside to a table right beside the stage, ordered the patrons sitting there to make room on threat of grievous bodily harm, and sat us down. Free drinks (non-alcoholic) for my wife all night. Can't remember the group who played, but they were brilliant. Love that city!

    Svend
