“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

More likely a valve power amp if you need 750v.

I don't think Oliver has progressed to 750V projects (yet?)

    It's 750 VA.

It going to back a Balanced Mains Unit. Made into an old BT distribution block. Nothing fancy, just working and doing a good job hopefully!

In an unexpected move, I found a whooshing noise on my rig and put it down to some sort of electrical problem somewhere but by chance yesterday, I remover the powerline adapter for the Internet and the background whoosh disappeared. Further experiments today have shown that the more things I turned off around the house, the better my noise floor has got SO looks like a BMU may be ideal.

Toroidal came from Airlink for £77 and a couple of 10A MCB for £4. The BT box is a gift so I may have quite a good solution for under £100!!

    Really?
What's this BT distribution block you're on about?

As you've found out, the crap that powerline adapters kick out onto the mains can cause audible artifacts.
Which is why I bang on about running proper ethernet cable.
Would it fall on deaf ears if I suggest running ethernet cable as well as building your BMU?

    Common sense isn't anymore!

It will NOT fall on deaf ears mate and is something I am looking into but routing a cable to the necessary Destination is a veritable nightmare!

I'll try and find a pic of the BT Distribution box. It's perfect for its new job.

It transfers your internet signal around your house using the mains wiring. It's so you have a wired connection everywhere. Very clever but dirties the mains badly IME
