Hi Josie, I have two, also on TD124 Mk2s. One is simply a soldered on pair of earth wires that connect to female part on the socket only, one to the earth on the TT base plate the other to the phono preamp earth. No hum, works fine. Martin

If it is the earth 'claw' on the plug that has failed then it can be replaced by a valve top cap connector. You will have to drill out the rivet of the broken claw and replace it with the valve top connector using a nut and bolt.
