    Default Roksan Nima question

    Hi guys,
im looking to get a Roksan Nima as the final piece of the puzzle to my newly built LP12.
Im aware there is a mark 1 and 2 version but is there anyway to tell.
iv found a guy selling one but he's not sure on which one it is, only that he bought it in 2016 (which leads me to think mk2) and he also said it has the opaque head shell and pivot ,and not the clear.
Is there a difference between the two types of headshells. Ivc searched online but can't find any details.
Aesthetically I would prefer the look of the clear from the photos iv found but not if its a lesser arm?
    Any opinions would be great
    Thanks
    Karl

If he purchased it New in 2016 it's a MK2.
I think you'd struggle to find a MK1 even if you wanted one!

They are very nice Unipivots and will reward you with great music.
I replaced mine with the Naim Aro, which whilst was an improvement, was not night and day. Certainly not 3x the cost anyhow.

I'd also advise you to get the Tiger Paw SKale Heavy Counter weight, which significantly improved the performance, allowing the counter weight to sit
right up closer to the cup. It's a cost effective 'upgrade' that gives you more sweetness from an already cracking tonearm.

The opaque is indeed the Mk2, there's very little difference sonically, the Mk2 (from memory) has a few extra grub screws holing it together rather than relying on glued joints, there's also provision for transit bolt which I can't remember on the Mk1.

FWIW I prefered Tabriz both sonically and as a user, wobbly arms don't belong on bouncy decks

Ok great thanks for getting in touch.
I did look at the tabriz but im on a tight budget, hence buying used.
Was there a reason they used clear and opaque or is it just for personal choice ?
is the clear available on the mk2?

Re: clear/frosted I'd guess at just cosmetic and stands up to repeated cart swaps better?

I'm a fan of Roksan arms, still got 3 here, IMO Tabriz is often overlooked and cheaper than Nima.

Jokes about wobbly deck aside, construction of the Mk2 will be better.

I'd recommend Van Damme arm cable off eBay, the basic (Jelco?) isn't great, and the HD cable I've got with Artemiz is VD.

Using an original heavy Decca International arm on a TD150 was 'fun'. It sure wobbled.

Give it a few months with your Garrard, then go back to LP12/Aro, you'll understand me

you could be right, although 12 inches of SME with a ruddy great SPU takes some getting used to as well!
The devil in me wants to take he Aro off the LP12 and stick it on the 401 as a second arm...
not sure i will though, maybe just keep an eye out for a decent 9" arm in the classifieds.
