Crap Weather for January
Scotland technically is on similar latitude to Canada If we lose the warm air and water streams it can get very cold up here. That was zn exceptional year. Maybe 95/96 or 96/97

Edinburgh is, surprisingly, much farther north than Toronto -- 55 deg. N, vs. 43 deg. The good 'ole Gulf Stream really does wonders, eh? Someone once told me about palm trees growing in Ireland, to which I called BS but I may have to withdraw that as it may actually be true.

there are a number of palm trees that are fairly hardy, some down to -20c. so yup.. there are a few places in uk that have them.

It could be worse I guess. It was sunny but only 3C earlier and the strong breeze made it feel much colder.
