Lots of gear at the boot sale this morning almost all of it from a single house clearance, Cambridge CD players, Arcam Alpha tuner, Sony surround amp, cheap Sansui record deck with no stylus, Pioneer EQ, Technics cassette deck, Wharfedale and Celestion speakers and assorted other bits, I got myself a Pioneer PDR 609 CD recorder and a Panasonic DMR-EX77 DVD recorder, bit worried that there was a fault with the hard drive, but managed to get it fully working and it turns out the hard drive had never been used to record on. I also picked up a couple of Sony twin deck CD recorders, a RCD W3 and a RCD W100, I have a friend who's asked me to look out for one, I thought two would be better, I did leave a third one behind. It's a shame tomorrow's going to be rained off as today was perfect weather, I usually travel further afield on bank holidays.

Last boot sale I went to, all I picked up was Miles Davis CD for 50p.

But who needs boot sales? My fiancé's neighbour has just put out a box of nearly 50 CDs for collection as refuse, and all are in excellent condition About three quarters of them are not to our taste, so they will go to a charity shop. But the rest are good and a nice find.

Just back form a boot sale and bag a Nakamichi CR-4 for £20 just testing it and I think it sounds better than my DR-2.

Nakamichi at a boot sale is a great find, I saw a fair bit of stuff today, only bought a Rotel RA-931 Mk II for £20, just because I have a soft spot for Rotel amps, the most interesting thing I saw was a fantastic Telefunken radiogram, incredibly stylish and well designed with chrome support/legs and sliding top, unfortunately I can't find a picture online, I just don't have room or a need for it, but at £35 I probably should have taken a punt, I did pick one of these up though, a tenner well spent and not something I thought I'd find at a boot sale: https://www.discogs.com/Jim-Williams...elease/4038015

I have the equivalent of a giant car boot sale and its called ebay. Everything I have ever thought of has been on there at some point

Ive never seen any decent hi fi equipment at the local car boots within say a 15 mile radius.

I have never found the car boots are worth the effort of attending. If its a nice day and Im bored, I might pop along and see whats going on

    Default "Striking gold" at last

I had given up with finding decent vinyl LPs at a boot sale. The choice has either been between ‘professional’ traders who blindly follow the record collectors’ price guides and charge commensurately regardless of record condition, or private sellers who sell the most amazing amount of dross, usually in the most appalling condition.

However one can sometimes strike gold. I was at a very large boot sale last week where there were hundreds of sellers. At these ‘dos’ I’m methodical in looking and visiting everyone, usually spending a few moments at each table. So I start at one end and work my way through all the aisles in a serpentine fashion. Having looked at all the tables I was thinking of giving up when I noticed a few more tables had been set up right at the far end of the field. To my delight there was one private seller who not only had items of interest, but was only charging a £1 apiece for LPs. Not only that but being a private collector, he was knowledgeable about his wares and they had been well looked after.

I was only interested in classical music and snapped up the following:

Django Reihhardt and Stephan Grappelly with The Quintet of The Hot Club of France

    Decca ACL 1158 (1964)

Vivaldi – ‘Concertos: Two Trumpets; Madrigalesco; Two Cellos; Two Flutes; Alla Rustica; Two violins & Two Cellos’

The Academy of Ancient Music, dir. Christopher Hogwood

Florilegium, Editions de L’Oiseau-Lyre. Decca DSLO 544 (1978)

’Recital for Strings – Telemann: Viola Concert in G major; Gabrieli: Canzona Noni Toni; Vivaldi: Concerto in B minor, Op.3 No.10 for Four Violins; Handel: Concerto Grosso, Op.6 No.4

The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, dir. Neville Marriner

    Editions d’Oiseau-Lyre. Decca SOL 276 (1964)

    Beethoven – ‘Violin Sonatas: No.9 in A, Op.47 “Kreutzer” and No.4 in A minor, Op.23

David Oistrakh, violin and Lev Oborin, piano

    Philips Al 3419 (1962)

Khachaturian – ‘Masquerade, Gayaneh, and Morning Ode’ and Prokofiev – ‘Symphony No.1 “Classical”’

Prague Symphony Orchestra, cond. Aram Khachaturian (‘Masquerade’ and Mourning Ode’) and the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, cond. Zdenèk Chalabala (‘Gayaneh’) and Karel Ančerl (‘Symphony No.1’)

    Supraphon SUA 10300 (1962)

Segovia – ‘Segovia on Stage: Purcell; Scarlatti; Handel; Bach; John Duarte and Gaspar Cassadó’

    Decca Brunswick AXA 4550 (1967)

’The Virtuoso Oboe, Volume 1 – Mozart: Oboe Quartet in F major, K370 and Oboe Concerto in C major, K314; Handel: Oboe Concerto No.8 in B flat major and Oboe Concerto No.9 in B flat major; Albinoni: Oboe Concerto in D major, Op.67 No.6’

André Lardot, oboe with The Boskovsky Quartet and the Chamber Orchestra of the Vienna State Opera, cond. Felix Prohaska

    Vangard VSL 11024 (1960)

Falla – ‘El Amor Brujo’ Granados – ‘Intermezzo From “Goyescas”’ Ravel – ‘Pavane Pour Une Infante Défunte’ and ‘Alborada Del Gracioso’

The New Philharmonia Orchestra, cond. Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos

    Decca SXL 6387 (1967)

Beethoven – ‘Wellington’s Victory’ and ‘Marches’

Berlin Philharmonic, cond. Herbert Von Karajan

    DGG 643 210 (1969)

Beethoven – ‘Violin Concerto in D major Op.61’ and ‘Coriolan Overture’

Josef Suk, violin and the New Philharmonia Orchestra, cond Sir Adrian Boult

As Barry says finding decent records is getting very difficult, they are either overpriced, £50 for a 1980s "White Album" anyone, or should have been taken to the tip years ago, I did four boot sales across three counties on Monday, got some nice books, but the only records were a 1980s Charlie Parker on Savoy comp and a Pye copy of "Bo Diddley's Beach Party", nice for 50p and £1 respectively, but not worth all the time, effort, petrol and £6 for car parking. My usual Sunday sale didn't yield any vinyl, but I did get an Acoustic Research A-04 amp, I haven't tried it yet, but from memory they were pretty decent sounding, hopefully it's fully functioning.
