Quiet boot sale this morning, a nice early shower didn't help, but I did pick up a Luxman L-190 amp from a house clearance guy, I left the matching cassette deck and tuner behind, no record deck, unfortunately, or speakers, had it running for a couple of hours this afternoon and was very impressed, nice sound, good phono stage, lots of features and very well built, I suspect it would have been an interesting match up against the Rotel 840 BX2 I had back in '84 which is when I believe the Luxman dates from. I let a friend have it to try, he's been after a nice sounding and well specified amp for a few months and you don't find too many with twin tape loops, two lots of speaker outputs, tone controls and a decent phono stage. I also grabbed a Denon DCD 580 CD player which I think was a pretty decent machine in it's day although I haven't even plugged it in to try yet.

Al, I've learned not to bring any more hi fi home unless I want to use it, I know someone who may want to use it, or it's worth loads of money, the last one doesn't really happen although my 301 was from a boot sale, but that just ended up costing me loads of money I did think about the tuner and cassette deck, but I just didn't need them, didn't have the space and it's good to leave something for someone who may want to use it. My friend seems very happy with the Luxman so it all worked out well and a good budget amp lives on.

Went yesterday - it had been raining overnight and the site was a bit like Glastonbury: mud, mud and more mud! It wasn't well attended, there was absolutely nothing to attract me, but we managed to sell £50 worth of stuff.

I have a Luxman L-200, which in pictures looks similar in appearance to the L-190. The L-200 has 40 W per channel, quite a nice amp.
