Ive done all the usual nonsense in the past. Trafalgar Square and Piccadilly Gardens with a bottle of brandy in hand. Ive been first footing in Scotland

In later years I preferred a calm night in with a bit of music. The telly goes off before Hootsananny Hogmanay with Stanley Baxter and I have an early bed

This year Ive had an offer to go on a mini pub crawl to a few places that dont charge for entry. I might go but my warm slippers and a glass of cheap irish cream feel more appealing

As my unpredictable health tends to dictate what I do I suspect it will be the usual evening with the telly and the cat.

A few years ago when I was a semi pro musician me and a mate were invited to a new years eve party at Saint Hill Manor by a fellow muso, I had no idea at the time that this was the European headquarters of the Church of Scientology and needless to say their brand of 'faith' was not to my liking and we ended up being forcibly removed after having a punch up with their security guards. After a very pricy taxi back to Brighton we ended up in a brilliant pub, not over priced, lots of ladies and a really good DJ. We rounded off festivities with a filthy kebab and to this day no recollection of how we got home. Could have been a disaster but ended up one of the best new years I've ever had.

I think a combination of the smoking ban and the millennium-eve rip-offs more or less ended it for the pubs, as it showed people they could have more fun more cheaply and in relative safety by celebrating at home.

The "going out" culture has changed, and not just for new year's eve. My daughters would start a night out by all meeting at a friend's house with drinks bought from the supermarket, then go into town about 11.30 or so. My younger daughter would regularly return home missing her mobile or a contact lens or a shoe. The fact that they have grown out of this practice makes me feel ancient, but no way would I want to be young again!

At 52, I still feel relatively young, and indeed as good as I did when I was 35, as thankfully I have good health and keep reasonably fit. However, if I could press a button and go back to my teens, I'd do it in a flash, as I loved my life then, almost as much as I do the one I have now!

"Young" is such a relative word, at 59 I still feel quite young, but if I could choose an age to be, I would say about 28. Young enough to have a substantial future ahead (though there are no guarantees), but old enough to be taken seriously as an adult, and not dismissed as a "kid". I imagine most people would consider 28 to be young, but ask a 17 year old, you would get a different answer!

Many of us have happy memories of our teens, but times have changed, and that isn't the youth you would be experiencing if you were a teen today. Internet bullying, binge drinking, the nanny state, political correctness, the "snowflake generation" (google it, makes interesting reading), the pressures of making it in the global economy, oh, and my pet peeve, MyArseYourFaceBook, are what your youth would comprise today.

I have a loving partner, God bless Mrs Pony, so I don't care about being "invisible" to the opposite sex, and my two terrific daughters fill me with joy and pride every day.

My health is still pretty good (long may it continue, but my one sadness is seeing the deteriorating health in some friends and family.

Otherwise it's all good, although if I'm honest I'd like some young ears, mine aren't what they were, too many loud gigs and raves I think.

Yeah, I getcha.... Before when you said that you wouldn't want to be young again, I thought you meant that you wouldn't want to go back to when you were young, rather than what you meant, which was being young in today's age

I agree, although how much you'd be subjected to what you've mentioned would largely be down to how you'd been brought up, and the values and what's considered as important in life that had been instilled in you.
