Look for a 2nd hand McKinnie RO III - design based on John Curls Vendetta phono stage by one of his ex-Swiss based engineers. I tried a couple of DIY SUTs and far prefer the McKinnie head amp...I now have 3, just in case...I assume the fets used are unobtanium nowadays.
Any idea what the fets are Richard?
There's still some very good low noise parts out there.

Is well worth a read.

I keep meaning to recap one of them Simon, and draw out the circuit as much as possible (it also contains a potted block...). A job for 2018!

In days gone by I used a Trio KHA-50 - the MC head amp section out of the legendary L-07CII, or so I was told at the time in the early 80s. Sounded very sweet with my micro output (0.09 mV) Micro Seiki LC80W cartridge
