    Triumph of commercialism over spirituality.

Not sure if the subscription model is worth trying even at this reduced priced.

As I read it this is only a subscription for one year! Unless you use it a lot I don't think it's worth it.

I use Photoshop CS a lot, and it is available for much less, I guess it's what features of the latest version you need.

What is it you want to do with images? Unless you want some pretty fancy facilities, there are very good free image handling software packages.

I use FastStone Image Viewer, it does everything I need and is nice to use. I won't use cloud storage, nothing is particularly safe apart from images stored on DVD.

This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

There are now many photographic editing tools available, both free and modestly priced, that I suspect would meet you needs as well, if not better than, Adobes PS and LR.

Mention has already been made of the excellent FastStone Image Editor. All the basics are covered, but its selection and cropping options are limited and it does not support the creation and editing of layers. Whilst available FOC, the developer does provide a link for donations, which, IMO, he or she deserve for developing and maintaining this little gem of a programme. It can be downloaded in .exe format for installation on Windows PCs or in portable format which can be run from a USB stick.

Next up would be the mighty GIMP image editor. Like Fastone this is freeware, but its capabilities are far more extensive and constantly evolving. In terms of its power and sophistication it is in the same league as PS and requires a similar level of commitment from the user to get the best from it. The current iteration falls a little behind PS in terms of integrated RAW-file handling and non-destructive image-editing capabilities, but the GIMP development team look set to address these issues in 2018.

The final option I would urge you to consider is Serif Affinity Photo, which is now available for Mac and Windows platforms. This is a comparatively new product from a long established company that has rapidly earned praise for its power and sophistication, user-interface and, quite frankly, exceptional value for money - currently available for under £40.00. Having used LR 5.0 and PSE for many years, and not been 100% happy with either, it has become my preferred choice for all things image-editing. An Affinity Photo Workbook has been published recently and, having been given a copy by a thoughtful Santa, I can confirm that it is a very useful practical guide to getting the most, with the minimum pain an discomfort, from the accompanying software. Together they represent superb value for about the same as the Adobe CC package with the added bonus of being yours to keep.

    Hope this helps

    Best

    Jon
