Default Goodmans Magnum speakers finally finished

I'm not sure if I can really call this a restoration as such .. maybe more of a remix ?

I bought these two vintage Goodmans Magnums on here from Geoff for £40 about a year or so ago and have stripped them to clean the pots on the back, fit more modern banana plug sockets, paint the fascias and re-cover the dated looking grilles.

The cracked finish on the front will divide opinion I'm sure, but I quite like it. They look "clubby" now though it was a complete accident how it came about. I had planned to paint them matt black and bought some spray to do just that, but I ended up using Hammerite around the cut-outs for the drivers - I'd removed them completely to facilitate the spraying - so as to mask the bare wood from that area. I had no idea the Hammerite would react with the matt paint like that but I thought it looked kinda cool.

The grilles were easy enough to do with superglue and a lot of patience.

They'll be on the end of the Denon integrated I picked up for a fiver and a great Trio turntable off Gumtree for forty quid. Given my gf and I had set each other a budget of £50 for Xmas as we're both a bit skint right now, I think I've done quite well (I'm not counting the cost of the Goodmans as it was from "last year's budget" as the politicians would say ).

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
