Default Software which keeps running at Login! Particularly Amazon Music.

Sorry if this is not the place to put software related topics - maybe it'll find its way to the "right" place eventually.

Recently I have noticed that some programs try to run when I turn on my MacBook Pro - or login. In particular Amazon Music seems to be the main offender. I checked how I should stop this - and apparently System Preferences -> Users & Groups -> Login Items should allow me to control this. I don't see Amazon Music listed, and this approach does not appear to work.

Comments? It's very much a nuisance, perhaps not a terminal problem, but it worries me that it might indicate other problems. Have Amazon managed to put something into their software to circumvent user controls or the OS features?

Currently I'm running Sierra on my MBP.

Can't help with the Mac I'm afraid but in a Windows environment I go to Start, Run and then type msconfig.exe. That works

Thanks for your comment - though I used to have problems with Windows too - but not quite the same as this one. Seems to be a recent phenomenon - and at least one other user has noticed something similar. Maybe a Finder or OS bug problem introduced at the last update. Maybe it'll become obvious soon enough, and then maybe Apple will fix it. ...... Eventually!

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

    Dave open up Amazon Music

Near the top right hand you will see your ID/logon name with a little down arrow next to it.. click on the down arrow and select Settings and select Advanced and deselect 'Launch Automatically on computer start up'

    That might fix it

The other thing you can try is the next time you restart or shut down your Mac and you see the pop up box with the "Are you sure you want to...." there is a tick box to 'Reopen windows when logging back in' you could try unchecking this box to see if it helps

That didn't quite do it, but I was able to get to Preferences in Amazon Music, then Advanced and then deselect the Automatic Launch. Next thing is to see if that actually works.

Bit naughty though. The application preferences shouldn't override the system wide ones IMO. I'll let you know how it goes.
