A nice review of the Luxman L-509X is in the January issue of Hi-Fi News, showing the amp produces 155 wpc/8 ohms and 255 wpc/4 ohms.

The build quality of this amp is staggering and the performance has kept me enthralled for two days now. Not often that happens.

It's £8500, which I realise is a lot of money, but I can think of numerous ugly, cheap black boxes with no facilities at similar or more money.

There is a new, bottom of the range but still with exemplary build, integrated, coming here in late December/early January.

Great care in the design and build has been taken to reduce the effects of vibration. The case is extremely strong and rigid with the top panel constructed from almost 1/2 inch thick Aluminium, the feet are cast iron.

I can honestly say that if I had the money, I'd have to buy it! It's perfect. If there's a better looking piece of kit out ere, I Havent seen it.

I was late on the uptake with Luxman. I understood they had every conceivable facility, fantastic meters and build as good as it gets but it wasn't until I heard one did I realise just how good they sound. This L-509X is one of the best amps I have heard, full stop. I have heard it equalled but only by far more expensive pres and powers, nothing at anything near the price.

Because it's been relatively quiet, I have spent 3 afternoons just digging out old, favourite CDs and LPs and playing them with the Luxman D-05u CD player into the L-509X and been fascinated at just how much extra detail and information it passes to the speakers. I haven't found the need to connect an external phono stage because the onboard MM and MC stage is so good.

This is a fabulous amplifier by any standards and a joy to use.

Luxman have done a number of similarly great amps over the years - I'd defo have one along with Accuphase and high end Sansui's ( AU 919, X1, X11, X1111 mos etc etc )
    My System:
Amplification - Sansui AU-919 Complete overhaul, upgraded, re-capped. Caps upgraded from 4 x 15,000 uf to 4 x 20,000 uf-inside original oval caps. All glue and 'black flags' removed
    Turntable - Modified Technics SL1210 MK5G
Mike New precision bearing, bearing base plate, ETP Platter
Micro Seiki MA-202 tonearm, rewired, hybrid ceramic bearings
Ortofon Cadenza Black moving coil cartridge
Yannis Tome 423.5 Silver-Litz tonearm cable with KLEI Pure Silver Harmony plugs
    Ebony armboard
Audio Technica MS-8 Magnesium headshell, Ortofon pure silver headshell leads
    Isonoe Isolation Feet
Paul Hynes SR7EHD PSU (plus regulator modules), DCSXL pure-silver DC lead with Jaegar low impedance connector
    CDP - Pioneer PD-91
    Speakers - Mission 752 Freedom
QED Silver Spiral speaker cable, Airlock plugs - bare wire amp end.
