Default KT66 If not NOS GEC then which ones?

Title pretty much says it all.

A quad of NOS GEC KT66 or Marconi for that matter seems very expensive! Do any of todays production valves get near them in terms of sound quality & longevity? If so what have you tried or what are your suggestions?

    Cheers, tube noob alfie.

    Default NOS KT66 options

    Hi Alfie,

If you don't get any joy here, PM either Anthony TD or 'SPS' (Steve), who will likely have some good (inexpensive) NOS options, other than GEC, for sale

Anthony will be able to offer good advice on modern KT66 options, too!

I used Watford valves to source matched KT66's when I had my QuadII's. I don't recall which ones I went for tho!

    hi ian,
i agree, derek at watford is a good place to source decent new manufactured KT66, although there realy isnt much of a choice of diffrent manufatured types of this paticular valve these days, it will just be down to the testing procedures the valve has undergone. also like most new stock valves none of the current manufactured KT66 will have the longevity of original old stock GEC or MARCONI etc this is mainly down to the materials used [or not used ]today in current production not being up to the quality of the originals.
