We always 'put up the decorations' on 1st December, Mike. Don't worry, it'll be Easter soon enough!

I was just suggesting to a colleague the other day that people who put their decorations on show prior to 1st December should be dragged from their houses and beaten to death in the street.

'That's remarkable,' says she, 'my husband said exactly the same thing just last night.'

That's a *really* good point! And yes indeed, good on him. You've clearly brought him up well.

We're the same, which is why we love having friends and family over for nice meals, and spoiling them. We put a lot of effort into that. Also, I love buying (thoughtful and carefully considered) presents for people - stuff that I know they'll like and want, not just any old crap for the sake of it, and watching the surprise (and joy) on their faces when they unwrap them

That's especially the case for Del, who gets quite excited about Christmas, and she'll drop little hints for me throughout the year, as to what she would like as presents - and so it's up to me to have been paying attention!

As for trees, ours goes up on Del's birthday (13th December), and decorating it all with our collection of vintage baubles (from the 1950s to 1970s), bought from various charity shops, and some of the beautiful hand-made glass ones we've brought back from the likes of Luxembourg and Austria), is something that we both enjoy and look forward to.

Agreed! As a child, the Christmas tree was brought into the house from the garden a week before Christmas Day, transplanted into a new tub and I was allowed to decorate it (with vintage large-bulb lights and glass baubles as mentioned by Marco). The room decorations also went up at the same time. And it all came down on Twelfth Night.

But you guys crack on, if you enjoy it, have fun and enjoy it - each to their own. Luckily I can choose how I go through December and it's not too different to November or January, which suits me fine.
