Default A revisit to the Denon has Landed.

    Some photos

Some 50 years have past and it’s impossible to explain how you can still find Hi-Fi perfection (or call it what you will). “Valhalla / Nirvana”.

Some minor mods to the Denon / Dynavector -DV507 MkII / Benz Wood.... with the addition of the ARCHE Headshell.

This has to be the most sonically critical improvement ever encountered. It’s surely is a masterpiece of engineering that actually works.

The second modification was an upgrade from the Whest Two.2 to the Whest PS30 RTD Special Edition.

This is an absolutely stunning Phono stage that I had never before encountered. The level of music delivery is in spades and I don’t really understand how to explain how this provides such intimacy and neutrality.

My point is, from going from a happy bunny with the Denon / Dynavector...... I’m in a state of total happiness.

My thanks to Paulf-2007 (Paul) of this forum for guiding me in the correct direction.

This is not an attack on the SP10 or any other TT, Just my happiness. In finding sonic Nirvana.

My thanks to all that have made constructive comments previously.

    Peter

Well I for one am pretty chuffed for you.

It's where we are trying to get and I guess a fair number of us have been at that 'nearly there' stage a while.

You are proof that a couple of things coming together in a properly sorted set up can be the piece that elevates things from really good to amazing, the genuine nirvana we seek

(Incidentally, I'm nearly there and just working on that last little bit too )

To be honest, I am not a fan of the looks that the arm gives.
That is not important though is it, as the only thing that matters is how it sounds, and it sounds like it makes you really happy. At the end of the day, that is what we are all searching for, so congratulations on getting there.

CageyH .... some say it’s the most expensive car jack ever..... me..... I think it a engineering masterpiece, no arm even comes near..... had the SME V 12”.. no competition!!!

    However, it only my opinion.

I think that’s what makes us all individuals.

Well I am very pleased for you Peter, I do have a reason for this happiness, it proves I'm not delusional about my own DP80 sounding fantastic, but in a different way. The Stax UA-70 12" arm is very special and the Shure ultra 500 in Martin Bastin body into a built in phono stage of the Sony receiver is magic. Having not heard your turntable of many years I couldn't comment on its ability but would have been surprised had you not preferred the Denon.
There is certainly nothing wrong with an SP10, I have heard one with an SPU on and it was very good but the DP80 seems to be dismissed by many, probably due to hearing the lesser denon tables that look similar but are a world away from the DP80's engineering.

To me, it looks like the arm "Desperate Dan" would have built and used.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
