    Default Third time lucky?

    Hi all,

Last night it seems like a crossover broke in one of my QAcoustics 3050s. Only 7 months old.

Changed a CD - and wtf? Everything has shifted to the right somehow. Yep, left speaking top terminals are dead. Bought these direct from QAcoustics after auditioning at RS with a friend who bought his ones.

The first ones I ordered were completely destroyed (both speakers) by DPD. I mean, like they'd been rammed for fun with a forklift.

So, got the second lot, which were OK. Great in fact. Now this. 3rd time lucky I hope.

I have not got an under-powered amp, never mistreated them, never really ran them hard

Anyone else had this? I have never heard of it before!

    Chris

Open them up and check. Only time I had a pair (and last) there was a ball of tin foil rattling around inside just looking for something to short.

Nah, you can't open these. All glued - not a screw in sight.

First swapped the left and right speaker connectors on the amp. Same thing. I hoped it'd be the amp in a way - less hassle (I have a few spare :-)). I can just remove the speaker cable from the top connectors when music is playing with no change. Cable is fine. Tried other cables too.

Yep, it's the speaker. Unfortunately. Oh well. We'll see what they say.

My speakers had an similar problem. They sounded great! And suddenly one day the top half of one quit. Just dead as a door nail. So I had to open it up to find the wires from the terminals to the crossover had fallen loose. Apparently at the factory the nut on the inside post had never been tightened and eventually vibrated loose. A very simple fix. But if you’ve got no screws on the speaker anywhere, that could pose a problem? Why would you build something to be unserviceable? Anyway, I called the company and the head tech gave me pointers before I started into it, may they could help? Worth a call.

Exactly what I have - just dead. You made me have a good search, Russell, cos, quite frankly I have been thinking "how do they make these bloody things". I have bad lighting (and eyes) so didn't see at first but the connection plate has little black screws, so difficult to see. I am not doing anything without talking to them though in case I void the warranty or something. If I can fix it I'll take some photos for the "archives" - which I believe exist somewhere on here.

    Thanks

I hope it proves to be as simple a fix as mine!
