Default Have I bought a fake...

I recently bought and just received a Record Store Day copy (picture disk) of Bladerunner OST. All in it cost me €116.

I played it yesterday for the first time. There is a constant background noise, very very loud like blood rushing and pulsating. It seems louder between tracks but I'm not sure if that's about the music masking it. I cannot put into words how it is.

I've never heard anything like it. Can it really be a bad pressing or is it a fake - how can I prove it?

I did a bit of checking up before buying it and the comments about sound quality were good - I wouldn't have bought it otherwise. Another lesson learnt.

It will look awesome in frames.. disc in one and cover in another then on wall beside the stereo. Then let its value increase.. Buy a normal one for playing.
I suppose its possible you have a bad one or a fake although they are not the easiest things to fake.

Were picture disks ever made to be played. I always thought they were primarily for display.

The only exotic LP I ever bought was by accident: a lurid red vinyl pressing of Linda Ronstadt's Living in the USA. I love the songs on this album and her performance, but my vinyl pressing is not great. How much of that is down to the Aphex Aural Exciter I can only guess!

I only have one picture disc and it's the same, a waste of money to be honest, they're for looking at not playing. Luckily the one I have was cheap but I won't buy another.

I think it was just another gimmick that the music companies tried when vinyl sales were slowing down.

I have a few picture discs, mainly bought to go on the wall, but most of them are perfectly listenable, although background hiss is present it isn't bad enough to stop me enjoying them when I do play them. Two of them are Bowie records, Aladdin Sane and Hours. It sounds like you have a dud and I would certainly send it back, it should sound better than you describe.

If it's this one ( check the runout details etc ) :

    Vangelis - Blade Runner

    Then it's genuine

I didn't actually want the picture disk but could not find it on normal vinyl. I checked a few forums for opinions and the consensus was that it was pretty good for a picture disk so I went ahead. Idiot.
