I'm a loner when it comes to christmas , only have 1 daughter who has lots to do at xmas , so I take a back seat and let her do her thing , No wife , a free agent , Christmas is massively over commercialised now

I remember when I was a child at christmas I only had about 5 gifts , A scalextric car , A beano annual , Action man clothing set , Chocolate stocking , and some money to put in my Post Office saving account . Then nothing till August when it was my birthday

I see Black Friday is coming up too, another materialistic consumerism bonanza, designed to get the imbecilic masses to part with even more money on crap they don't really need.

My mantra for Black Friday for many years, 'not one penny' I don't buy anything at all on Black Friday, absolutely zero. Now you can if you wish, call me a miserable git over that, but it's total bollocks and I find it all rather distasteful

It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

Never heard of black friday until last year. Has to be some kind of American thing. Like all the other pathetic crap that gets treated as 'normal' now. Father's Day anybody?

I bought a chromecast last one for half price. Could have bought it earlier but thought I would save a few quid. If there is one coming up I will wait if I'm needing something and get it then. Won't go to shop and have a punchup tho and don't buy something I don't already want

Oh my god! There's nothing wrong with the bidet is there?

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

I’m a full on Christian, and enjoy giving gifts to my loved ones. Having said that, I hate Christmas ads, shopping, and movies! Divorced and disabled, it just isn’t any fun anymore. But, each year I go to the family gathering, give away 100 times more than I receive, and feel depressed afterwards. It seems the true meaning of the holiday is lost, it’s all about, “how much did you get?”. And what about Rock versions of classic Christmas songs?
