    Default Ramblings of a devotee...

    Hello Everyone,

I'm Rohan and music is my raison d'etre. I just played a gig several hours ago. 5 hurs driving. 3 playing. I've had 3 hours sleep. I'm committed, haha!

Oddly enough, up until about 2 years ago, my equipment for playing back recorded music at home was, shall we say, surprisingly inadequate. A cheap pair of Wharfedale floorstanders and an AV amp- what was I thinking!!??

I keep typing long introductions only to be logged out when I try to post them, so for now I just want to get this post up and I will elucidate further in due course!

    Ok, that worked. Thanks Grant!

As I had written (several times and having failed to post), it is all the more perplexing as to my choice of home reproduction; I was familiar with the sound of live music, both amplified type and acoustic, the real sound of traditional instruments, and what it sounds like hearing big pairs of Genelecs and Klein & Hummel monitors in a studio environment.

A couple of years ago, life settled a little and I started to think, "You could really do with some new speakers".
Browsing Ebay my eyes alighted on a set of KEF 105.4. I was transfixed. Smitten. I had never known that speakers could look so gloriously idiosyncratic, amusing, colourful.

I didn't get that particular pair...but soon enough I had tracked down a set of the elder sisters, the 105.1. I set them up in my living room and discovered.....soundstage! Imaging! The ability to listen for 8 hours without fatigue. This was what I had been missing all of these years. A flame had been kindled and it has burned ever since. I gobbled up information wherever I found it, learning all that I could about this most enticing of subjects.

I'm definitely an experimenter. I think there will be a point at which I'll find the best means of listening at home- amp choice, cones vs horns vs electrostatics etc etc. It will be a lot of fun getting there! There seem to be many knowledgeable people around to learn from.

Anyway, enough rambling for now. Hope you all have a great Sunday and if you have the chance to indulge in some quality listening, all the better!

Hi Rohan, great introduction. I heard the large Kef's at hifi shows in the 90's and I was always impressed.

There's a lot going on here, so get stuck in, chat with folk and have fun.

    Enjoy the forum,
