    Default The Denon has Landed

I was so knocked out by this turntable/arm combination, so I thought I would write a few words about this adventure.

I have wanted the DP80 TT for some years but never found the perfect deck until recently. I also wanted to marry this TT with what I consider, as one of the finest arms currently available (The Dynavector DV507 MkII).....”No doubt some would disagree”

After much deliberation and recommendations, the Plinth Construction was carried out by ACOUSTAND (Lee Drage) to his own custom design and build materials and I can only say this Plinth is totally stunning, not just in looks but in suitability for this particular TT.

The plinth Constuction consists of layers of differing materials chosen both for density and damping factors. These consist of an Acrylic top plate, an under plate of Derlin and sub layers of MDF.

The icing on the cake is a fully adjustable arm board to accommodate any arm from 9” to 12”. Additionally, to fully decouple the plinth from its support platform, Magnetic Levitation feet have be installed.

I won’t harp on but my main deck but this was the Townshend Rock 7 / SME combination, which I always thought was a giant killer of a turntable but now I afraid, this TT will only ever take second place to the Denon.
Sonically, this is finest deck that I have ever heard and just can’t stop playing more and more records that sound just incredible.

Below is a few photo’s of the rig.........unfortunately they don’t do full justice to the superb build quality achieved by Lee of ACOUSTAND.

Very nice indeed Peter. I think the DP80 is very modest but a giant killer, all these fancy tt's with bells and whistles are mostly for show and not worth the asking prices. The Denon is just top quality engineering and the sound quality is unbeatable. I suspected you would prefer it to the Townsend but thought I would let you find out for yourself. So pleased you found one and like it after your impatience when mine was for sale. I could have easily sold mine and regretted it.

    Hi Peter,

I am really impressed. That plinth looks perfect for the Denon. There are few TTs that can do what the statement DD's of the day are capable of. I'm really pleased for you. The arm looks fantastic too. Great combination visually. I bet it sound fantastic. Congratulations.

PS, those McIntosh pieces look fabulous. I have a soft spot for McIntosh. Can I ask how you rate them?

Paul / Oliver, thank you for your very kind comments.... I am truly stunned by the music presentation this combination produces.

Oliver, as far as the McIntosh is concerned, I understand they are a bit of a Love Hate scenario. For me, it’s LOVE. My current MA2275 (Valve amp) is built like a tank and sounds beautiful, the SACD player is equally well built and I would put this up against anything out there. I’d also use this as A DAC as it has Eight(8) ESS Sabre chips onboard. (Complete overkill I guess) but it works.

If you find any used McIntosh kit........ take a very close look,. you will never regret it.

The fit & finish looks excellent Peter, if it sounds as good as it looks you are a lucky man. I love how many different paths there are in this hobby that leads to sonic Nirvana.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
