I think as a householder you might find it difficult to buy really effective mouse bait?
Try and find a friendly farmer that can issue you wih some proper bait and use it in a bait box and check refill every day or so till the buggers are no more!
They may have found a food source in your loft ,so let them eat bait as Marie Antoinette might have said

The stuff I got in the pre baited tamper proof traps killed them mostly as they are or just out of the box. They would just freeze in the position. Very weird
