    Default Hello from Downunder

    Hi all,

Just returning to our crazy hobby after a few years of travelling and working overseas. I've been lucky enough to have found bits of my kit in my travels which I have slowly refurbished. My current system

    Linn LP12 (80s)/Alphason Xenon/Ortofon MC30/Hercules PS
    Sonic Frontiers Phono 1
    Meridian 596/595 DVD/Processor
    XTC Pre 1
    XTC POW 1
    Mission 754 Freedoms

The Pre/Power have significantly upgraded by beefing up the power supply and replacing worn components for the amplifier.

I decided to stick with the Mission 754s purely for their fit in my smaller apartment. They have now been upgraded by sourcing new Mid range driver from Audax Germany to replace the original carbon fibre Audax driver. With the help of my tech we were able to use a new Scanspeak ring radiator for the tweeter. The internal bass driver was also replaced. The speakers were rewired with silver wiring. While having modest beginnings they were not ashamed against my tech much more expensive speakers. I guess technically they are no longer Mission 754s but they sound great and look elegant in their oak veneer skin.

Looking forward to the audio banter and listening to more music.

    Cheers
    Alan

    Hello Alan. Welcome to AOS.

That's an interesting system you've put together, if you have further plans for it we'd like to hear about them.

Feel free to join in and chat with folk, there's plenty going on.

It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Thanks for the welcome. I'll certainly try and up load some pics on the gallery. Especially the speakers. My tech was very happy with the results and I am enjoying them.

    Thanks Geoff,

I was not looking to put together a system with such an bias towards English kit. When I was living in the UK I had Focal Divas Utopia driven by BAT and Plinius amplification but I could not accommodate them in my new flat. I was lucky enough to stumble onto the pair of XTC amps which were the actual ones that were featured in Hi Fi World magazine. I'm very happy with the modification we did on them, they are fantastic amps and as good as the Plinius SA200 MKIV.

I've only acquired the Linn recently from a friend so just enjoying the music through it and understand why so many people love their LP12.
