I think pfm's off-topic section is the best of any forum by a country mile, even though I'm not into the heavily political nature of it, which Tony has nurtured and managed extremely well, over a long period of time, largely because he himself is very passionate about the subject.

That ably demonstrates what I've been saying all along, which is that you only get out of something what you put into it, and the success of the off-topic section there is largely down to him, how he's developed it all, and the quality of debate from members discussions have attracted.

It's not just the political bits that warrant recognition, however; the photography section is of an extremely high standard, and a credit to the forum.

Geoff, you are not a million miles from me. Feel free to pop over sometime (during a weekday) and listen to some music without a CD or TT in sight. I'll soon convince you of the merits of 'computer music'.

Honestly, as a whole, I think it’s a bunch of clueless idiots pontificating badly informed bollocks to each other; if I were Tony I would axe the whole thing.

Lol - well, we'll probably have to disagree on that one. Besides how would you know that they're "clueless idiots" if you abhor that section of the forum (thus presumably ignore it)?

Thanks Edward. Might take you up on that!
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

Yeah, fair point - I really haven't read any of it in a very long time - perhaps it's entirely different now......... .

As I write this the top ten topics on PFM "Off Topic" are:

"Serving Linguini, what do you use"
"Chris Packham - Aspergers and me"
    "Police cleared over following moped"
    "Tesco going bust"
    "OSX alert"
"Oxford student Lavinia Woodward spared jail over knife attack"
    "Combi boiler"
    "Blue planet 2 electric boogaloo"
    "Horrific fire in London 2"
"The end of police community support officers"

Hardly narrow in their scope, these topics, and debate is often surprisingly well informed IMHO - posters with expertise in the field discussed often contributing, to a level at least as well informed as the audio posts. Posters on there are also very good at embedding useful or enervating links, whether to the Daily Mash, or the FT or twitter or whatever - I see stuff I would otherwise miss.
