Default What is the 'best sounding' wood

I have a wood turning lathe and would like to turn up some feet for my equipment.

But, what wood will have the best sonic characteristics. I have in the past used oak and have an inkling for Panzerwood, but don't think that available to the DIYer.

    What do you suggest?

    Thanks

Whatever you like. Oak is fine, as is any hardwood. As for sonic characteristics, you'd need pretty special hearing abilities to notice any difference between choices of wood for feet.

You could try something different, what about making some out of Tufnol? Your wood lathe should cope.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

I am not expecting miracles, have been in this game too long, but it all adds up.

I like a lathe. I've a couple of small Unimat 'model makers' lathes. Must get around to using them.

Spruce is usually used used for piano soundboards, as apparently transmits sounds quickly, and the grain is supportive of it's function.

And have made a sound system out of baltic birch, as that's what Bill Fitzmaurice said we should do...

But it depends on the function of the wood, to sound nice look nice or dampen....

Guess another world to explore would be violin makers, who are quite obsessive about wood.

Sorry if this isn't very helpful..

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
