Default A lesson in selling post brexit

I've sent stuff wth UPS to and from the UK many times with no problem. Today they picked up my Siggwan tonearm to ship to the States - I've just discovered, or rather the buyer has, that it's being returned to me. God knows why - as far as I know I did everything required including 4 comercial invoices.

The only thing I can think of is I marked it as a HiFi component but didn't complete a form for electronics - but it doesn't contain any electronics. It's made of wood for god's sake.

So, unhappy buyer and no doubt I've lost €115 on shipping and insurance. When and if it turns up or I can get an answer from them I'll no doubt have to pay to send it again. This is a lesson for those who think life will be rosy after brexit - forget easy sales.

Excuse my ignorance, how has brexit affected sending parcels to the states?

It hasn't and won't, but the same red tape and possibility of idiocy and uncertainty currently involved in sending to and from the States will apply to everywhere for the UK, even 25 miles across the channel or the few feet across the Irish border.

Or maybe it's just me that thinks attaching 4 commercial invoices to a private sale and being paranoid about getting the last detail right finds it a pain and a worry. It might also be me who has never had a simple transaction outside of the EU.

Last week I sent a 20kg parcel to an ex-colony as well and it went through smoothly. Pick up and delivery inside 72 hours. In my case London to Sydney with completed Oz paperwork.

Perhaps the Yanks needed their own paperwork completed? If you did then who knows what the issue was. Sorry that you are now out of pocket needlessly.

As usual it's the monkeys employed at customs in Spain. The problem is made worse because they have given no explanation to UPS - so wtf do I need to do?

My point about brexit is that once all packages v have to go through customs they will be so over worked they will employ retards as in Spain and then kiss goodbye to eBay etc.

Inclined to agree. although I dont really believe in a "free for all" movement of peoples, trade should be. Unskilled workers should be limited by the nation after a certain amount if they wish. You will never have total equality of nations, even if it sounds great in theory.

anyway, back on track, let us know when you find the "why" it was returned Adrian

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

I think uk business will see this an opportunity. I own and run several companies and I'm already beginning to fill in the gaps that our European friends have left. I think uk companies will start marking, producing, and offering services again because it may be more profitable rather than outsourcing to other countries. Slightly off topic (sorry) but I wish you luck in getting your tonearm back. Your situation highlights why I think UK Plc may be better post brexit although the jury is still out.....

There's a big difference between a business and some guy on a forum or eBay. That's my point.

I'm looking at sending it to the UK and having it shipped from there - been down this track before with the retards here in Spanish customs who seem to have a problem wth the US. Not telling UPS or the sender why it is being returned means I should do what exactly...

Sometimes a business is a man/woman on eBay or a forum, a sole trader. So I don't see a difference.
