My hip is bone to bone now and it gets very inflamed. The pain even with the meds can be too much sometimes. Without them it would be unbearable . Nothing much worse that being disabled like this. I now know how the wife felt...

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

From this time of year till mid Spring when it gets warmer and sunnier, I ache from head to toe - literally everything hurts. Yet when I go into the Sun, by having a break abroad, all the pains go within an hour or two. We just had 5 days in Tenerife and all the pains disappeared. I haven't taken a painkiller for two weeks now but will be forced to do so soon. What's that all about ?
Wonderful what some nice weather can do, maybe we should move to ibiza it wouldn't surprise me if stress was a factor, doubt my GP would agree?

In all honestly, James, a couple of glasses of red wine (or maybe some whisky, if you prefer spirits), as long as you don't go overboard, is likely to be just as effective at dulling the pain as any tablets, and it's liable to relax/de-stress you too, which itself will be beneficial.

Added to that, in terms of red wine especially, it's a natural product and (if consumed in moderation) good for you. Plus, you will experience less side-effects than filling your system with chemicals! Just make sure that you don't drink on an empty stomach or too late at night.

If it's purely pain relief you need, and you're ok otherwise with drinking alcohol, it'll do the job nicely, and trust me be much better than any tablets

No. But I'm willing to be a guinea pig.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!
