I know, lightweight eh? All we could afford though.

Things improved after I landed a paper round job. And nicking empty glass bottles to sell back to the shop helped too

If children are being bullied because of the name of their road, the problem is the bullying children, who need educating. Changing a road name will not stop their behaviour

Makes me laugh. Why not teach the children to give the 'bullies' a smack in the mouth?

Had a couple of really nice bike rides there last year and we are planning a weekend ride right round it this year some time
When I was a kid we used to go to Shanklin for a week in the summer, I loved it and even now I remember the hotel so well. It was a white manor house style building with huge gardens and a full sized snooker table. Many, many years later I became friends with a guy who came from the IOW and after I mentioned my childhood holidays it turned out that unbelievably his dad owned that very hotel around the time we went there in the early 70s. Small world eh!

The problem with teaching kids to give the bullies a good hiding is that the bullies would have to be included in the lessons, as the school would not be allowed to exclude anyone from an activity, regardless of race, gender or whether the individual was a complete turd.

I had a couple of years of bullying from 4 individuals, until I decided I had to do something about it.

My method was to follow them home until they were on their own, then ambush them and knock them to the ground. A couple of them I ambushed as they were leaving a shop, and I relieved them of their purchase.

I never spoke of it, and neither did they (probably embarrassed). It was a horrible time, gave me a feeling of dread, but certainly did the trick. Might not work for everyone but surely more effective than having teachers intervene.

Most bullying these days seems to happen via social media, not sure what the answer is with that.
