There's another one where Bella Emberg and Anne Widdicombe are an item. Poor Bella - she could do so much better

Attended a baptism at Westminster Cathedral, London this morning.

At my time in life I seem to be going to more funerals than weddings or baptisms, so it was nice to see someone at the start of their life's journey, rather than the end.

Not Hi-Fi, but on ebay, so I'll mention it here. There's a nice semi-pro Nikon P6000 13.5mp compact camera on ebay that looks as though it's going cheap.

It's a quality bit of kit. I've got one!

Parents run ragged by their children may have suspected it all along.
Youngsters have greater*energy levels than professional endurance athletes, scientists have discovered, meaning it is virtually impossible for the average adult to keep up.
And for mothers and fathers hoping that tiring out their little ones will ensure a good night’s sleep, be warned.
Children also have a impressive recovery time, and will be back to their hyperactive best quicker than parents can say ‘lie in.’
“We found the children used more of their aerobic metabolism and were therefore less tired during the high-intensity physical activities," said Sebastien Ratel, *Associate Professor in Exercise Physiology who completed this study at the Université Clermont Auvergne, France.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

    Ha - most interesting!

However, if parents want their kids to get a proper night's sleep, then regardless of anything else, they should ensure there are no electronic devices (phones, tablets, X-Boxes, or whatever) in their bedroom, thus preventing any social media interaction when they go to bed, and that the TV (if one exists) remains firmly switched off until the next day.

This will ensure that there are no distractions, and that they can concentrate simply on getting a good night's sleep, at a hopefully respectable hour! The effect of any other 'distractions', no matter their energy levels, I'm afraid pales into insignificance

Lol... Go for 'Babooska' then, as she's only 27, and by all accounts rather amply proportioned!

When our eldest was little, there were no smartphones, tablets or anything of that nature, nor did she have a TV in her room. But she seemed to never sleep. Every night she'd go to bed at a reasonable time; every night she'd come trailing downstairs several times before finally settling down. Even now, however late she's been out, she'll be up at six to go to the gym. I don't know where she gets it from; her younger sister is almost as lazy as me. My eldest sister was another non-sleeper, and also a sleep-walker. By contrast, I was so quiet that my mother took me to the doctor's because she was worried that I didn't cry as much as my sisters had.

The trouble is that children are all different, yet often the childcare books work on the basis that they're all the same. For example, one 'rule' they lay down is that small children won't wander far from their parents, yet both of ours were 'bolters'; if you took your eye off either of them for a second they were off, and they could move pretty damn quickly too.
