    Really painful lower back

I've had this back pain for ages now and it's really getting me down

I'm using a back stretcher which does help a bit and am booking in for some physio as well

I sympathise with you Bev, back pain can be total misery.

Don't know the nature of your problem, but with me it's sciatica, which nags my back and sends "electric shocks" down one leg if I've been standing, walking or reaching up for more than a few minutes. Luckily, sitting sorts it, then I can get another few minutes.

Sometimes the problem is muscular spasm, and can happen if I've lifted a heavy or awkward object (my head sometimes thinks I'm 30, and my body goes "actually you're sixty").

I found chiropractors can help, but can get a bit pricey (about £40 first visit, £25 subsequent visits). And the effectiveness varied with the three different chiropractors I used. Still worth a try though. One of them recommended cod liver oil capsules too, but I don't know if it was them, or the therapy that helped me. Once my back was better (after a couple of weeks) I discontinued both.

Whatever treatments you go with, I wish you well.

    Ste

A few years ago, when doing my morning commute on my trusty Suzuki GS750, I had a van come out of a side road, and into my path (like they do). I flew over the bars, and across the bonnet of the van, resulting in my upper right leg being impaled on the aerial (ouch).

I was taken to hospital in an ambulance and the A&E department removed the piece of aerial. It wasn't very deep, and I was otherwise unhurt, so I was discharged soon after.

I was back at work a couple of days later, and all seemed well, but then after about four days I noticed a bit of a rash had developed around the site of the wound. The doctor prescribed some antibiotics and told to "see how I got on".

Another 3 or 4 days passed and the antibiotics were having no effect, in fact the rash (more like blistering) had spread up towards my groin. Another visit to my doctor. Completely baffled, he promptly referred me to a specialist, who informed me that it was the worst case of van aerial disease he'd ever seen

Found out today I have a spare grand or so in my bank account. Hmm.............Now what do I spend it on?

The car? Hi-Fi? Loose women and booze? Or just be a skinflint and carry on pretending I'm broke!

Probably 'cos I've been watching my spending and not had any big bills recently, so the money coming in builds up. I don't have online banking, so the account balance tends to be a mystery between statements.

Ah I see... Complete opposite from me (as I have online banking), so it must be a nice surprise - bit like getting an unexpected tax rebate!

Is it burning a hole in your pocket Geoff?

I remember the first time I had a grand left in the bank at the end of the month. I was 33.
