Context should be considered over content in my opinion. One can insult without swearing and swear without insulting. Obviously each individual will have different ideas as to what is acceptable in terms of profanity (if any), but an intent to offend or provoke is generally easy to determine.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

I've been a member here for a few years now and have learnt a lot and hopefully contributed positively at times. Being from West Yorkshire I swear at the drop of a hat but wouldn't use it offensively or deliberately to upset another member.

I have at times been offended by certain opinions on certain threads but have learnt to withdraw from them before my temper and swearing kicks in. I value this forum for what it is - a place to share our love/obsession of music and hifi, nothing more.

I think a lot of folk have found friendship as well as comradeship here;I know I have many here I regard as fiends....ooops friends , even if maybe they dont... that is outwith ones control.
Again there are few forums that give folk the chance to complain so think yourselves lucky

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Heres an idea Joe, why not change your sig to Joe, always an Agenda!!!

Even more weirdly, when someone pointed out the 'three words daily' thread for comparison, he was told by the moderator that twd is a 'light-hearted' thread where, by implication, such language was OK.

Now, I seldom use bad language, being the polite person I am, but it would be good to know which words are or are not OK. pfm has a 'swear filter', where the forum software censors certain words, leaving asterisks in place of letters, so the job is done for you. But what's OK on AoS language-wise?

I'm not sure what you think my agenda is. I simply asked for clarification about what words are OK to use on AoS, because i wanted to know. If you think I have a deeper agenda, perhaps you could share your idea with the rest of us, rather than making gnomic remarks?

    Default Irritating behaviour

I can sympathise with Anthony's view, Joe, because let's face it, if there's a likelihood of anyone 'poking' how things are here, and sometimes what's said by certain people, it's liable to be you - and as you know, you've been warned about it before

    Anyway, let's move on.
