    Default Back Satan...

Albums, particularly those from yesteryear can be bloody expensive. I've bought a couple of albums around the €270 mark, because of rarity and condition - and each time I consider the 10 or so I could have bought with the same cash.

Once again 2 albums that have been on my watch list for a while have come up at a reasonable (compared to other copies at twice the price). We're talking €530 for both - ridiculous. CD versions are a tenner each - so... Maybe I'd be better investing €500 in a decent CDP and starting on the slippery slope of digital..... Or forget owning certain albums...

Well, we all say 'it's all about the music', don't we?

OTOH, if that was really the case, we'd just subscribe to Spotify, and stop acquiring 'stuff' ...

That's exactly what I have done - best move I could have made.

    €Hundreds for a vinyl copy.
Jeepers, you couldn't make it up.
I get hundreds of thousands of albums available at the click of a mouse for a tenner a month.
    It sounds superb.

    But, hey, we're all different.

I love the physicality of a record... I don't mind paying over the odds but nothing like what some people are asking.

Luckily I had the forethought of buying a lot of my vinyl with the cd version since the early 90's. I've had them in boxes ever since.

Personally, I don't like spotify, Tinder and I would never subscribe to such a service. I find my music as it comes...

Buying records at usual price is a great way to get your music. Buying rare stuff is because your a collector of such, even if its just with one or two groups, is completely another. If your not a collector then dont buy them. Streaming is the way forward convenience wise, but you do lose the physicality

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Simply can't imagine paying that for a record. Need head examined territory. Clearly an LP is more fun than a CD so worth a bit more, but that's just silly. Music isn't stamp collecting.

It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

It isn't about collecting, it's about not having a digital source and wanting an album/music that isn't available as a re-release because this love it.

I think once I've upgraded the vinyl end I'll invest in a digital source - I'm not paying that kind of money again.
