    Funnily enough I use a PD-S705 which is virtually identical to your PD-S703. I bought mine in Mint condition on eBay for £39.

    It does make a good transport as you can switch off the analogue output.

    I am kind of tempted by all the rave reviews for the CXC though...I am currently considering getting one as a wee Christmas present to myself.

    I prefer the Pioneer DV-505 or DV-717 to the stable platters, better focus, and cost peanuts. I think their use of a RAM buffer and re-reading on error makes a difference.

    I have a DV-717 and a couple of PD-S505 Precision CD players. The PD-S505 Precision wins in my system.
    It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

    ...I believe this has a clock upgrade?

    I do find now though, that a decent USB to SPDIF converter beats CD / DVD transports in terms of SQ.
