    Hi
The arm is not tracking properly, and does not always work on auto, also the optical system is kaput. I bought it in the early 80's, as it was idiot proof if you wanted music on return from the pub.
I guess it needs a thorough service, and probably also a new cartridge, it's currently got an ortofon vms20e.
    Regard,
    Richard

Beobloke knows a guy who repaired his PS-X9 which is a complex beast too. The PS-X65/X70 are all very similar in terms of electronics and a guy on here tried to get the PS-X70 fixed to no avail. Jamie123 knows a guy who worked on his Pioneer but be prepared for a large bill and no guarantee of repair. Fantastic TTs though.

PS. if the magnetic strip on the underside of the platter is damaged, it cannot be repaired.

If you have the Schematics, Firebottle loves a challenge. Jez Arkless is useful with a soldering iron too though he's busy creating a phonostage of potential epic proportions ATM.

It's similar Jamie, they all used very similar boards etc. Great TTs. I can say, I don't think I ever really got over selling mine. It only had a AT95E on it but it was fantastic. Well worth hunting down a repairer.

There are service as well as user manuals at vinyl engine.

    https://www.vinylengine.com/library/sony/ps-x65.shtml

The automatic operation requires the light (next to the platter at the 1 o'clock position) to be functioning, the mat to be located properly so the holes are aligned and the shutter which moves with the arm to be set correctly and functioning.

I think you will need to clarify what causes you to believe the arm is not tracking correctly.

I have a PS-X600 which uses the same optical mechanism.
