“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

    Hi
The arm is not tracking properly, and does not always work on auto, also the optical system is kaput. I bought it in the early 80's, as it was idiot proof if you wanted music on return from the pub.
I guess it needs a thorough service, and probably also a new cartridge, it's currently got an ortofon vms20e.
    Regard,
    Richard

Beobloke knows a guy who repaired his PS-X9 which is a complex beast too. The PS-X65/X70 are all very similar in terms of electronics and a guy on here tried to get the PS-X70 fixed to no avail. Jamie123 knows a guy who worked on his Pioneer but be prepared for a large bill and no guarantee of repair. Fantastic TTs though.

PS. if the magnetic strip on the underside of the platter is damaged, it cannot be repaired.

If you have the Schematics, Firebottle loves a challenge. Jez Arkless is useful with a soldering iron too though he's busy creating a phonostage of potential epic proportions ATM.

I don't do DD turntables unfortunately. I regard them as intrinsically beyond economic repair. If they start changing hands for £1k + then I'll start taking them on! (oh and if there's a rare one that does go for £1K+ please don't bother anyone.... I'm talking about a generic up market DD TT). Someday I'll get round to repairing my own Technics SL-150 MkII... I've only been putting it off for going on 20 years! I even know exactly what's wrong with it, having spent some time on it 20 years ago. It needs a replacement IC which may or may not be unobtainable by now...

Just to clarify, my friend that I have recommended to Dikky, who Jamie also used for both his Sony and Pioneer, doesn't do 'big bills' as he does it because he enjoys it, and for the challenge.

Someone else also asked me how much he would charge if he couldn't fix their deck. I had to be honest and reply that I did not know becuase, in the ten or so years that I've know him, there is genuinely nothing I know of that he hasn't been able to repair!

Adam, I wasn't suggesting your friend was going to charge excessive I was warning that a repair could become costly. No offence intended.
