Credit card payment through PayPal via the eBay listing is what I'd do. That way, you don't have to have the money yet, you have some comeback should there be a problem and eBay guarantee your money if they don't arrive or are broken.

Adrian maybe get the chap to invoice you via Paypal for the deposit and get him to state clearly on the invoice what exaclty the invoice is for, ie. 'Deposit of £xx for xxxxx speakers' with '£xx to pay on xxxdate' that way it might give you some protection via Paypal etc

And via Paypal opt to 'pay after delivery'

I hope that makes some sense

Not if you send cash. You will have to do it as a purchase of goods or services.

I would be going to check and pick up and then pay. Anything else with that amount is madness

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

I can never understand threads like this as only you can decided what to do, but if I were I'd hire a van, drive to the guys house, check them out, take them/leave them, drive back. What's so hard?

Also Adrian, Do ask him why they havnt sold in that time as you believe he's got them up at a fair price and gauge the response / answer. I know I would.

If there something you really want at a great price then build up a rapport with the guy, get a listen, view of them some how and take it from there.....

    All the best with it
