Default Hello, from a long term lurker called Spencer!

    Hello All,
Having probably spent the good part of a couple of years gleaning information from all you wise hifi people on the forum, thought I should stand up and be counted.

First name is Spencer, Surname is John (yes, i know). Age 42

First love is my wife, obviously, along with our two young girls Beatrice (5) and Cordelia (3), closely followed by music.
Listening at home, gigs, in the car, at work, makes me feel somehow better to have music in my life.

So there's the connection to hifi I guess. Feeling good, happy. Ironically my wife says most of my music is depressing, but hey.

I have only recently had what you would consider decent hifi, having had the typical Technics/Kenwood/Pioneer mid-fi gear growing up.

    System at the moment is;

    Rega RP6 TT
    Ifi Iphono Phonostage
    Macbook for Streaming etc.
    Quad 909/99 full system
    Dynaudio Contour 1.3SE Speakers

I would like to now change the Quad components to something better suited to the speakers, having enjoyed a year with them partnered with Rogers speakers.

Looking forward to contributing a bit more and learning as I go....

    Bye for now - Spencer

welcome Spencer. Hope you enjoy the forum. Quad amp is a good un, and hard to beat if you need a bit of power as well as craft.

can sometimes be a slippery slope depending seen folk go though lots of amps etc to end up hankering after much what they started with. Croft preamps are a good match for the quad power amp. Probably your best bet is to attack it this way imo, as the power amp is very good.

    Hi Spencer. Welcome to AOS.

Not sure why you'd want to change the Quad amps. They are very good. My inclination might be to see if other speakers could suit them better. I owned those Dynaudios and wasn't too happy with them personally.

Anyway, There's lots going on here, so take a look around and join in the chat.

    Enjoy the forum,

    Hi Spencer,

Welcome to the forum! It is a slippery slope indeed. I'd recommend hearing as much stuff as possible before moving anything on. May not be able to test a bit of kit before buying but if you know what sound you want to achieve it makes it a lot easier.

    Oliver.
