I put a video on Youtube on another thread of me refurbishing them.

I just sanded the cabinets down by hand then gave them a couple of coats of beeswax.

With all the “New”, and “improved”, going around these days, it’s rather amazing how well the old stuff worked!

They are quite fancy aren't they? Built in powered 1200watt subwoofers. Tasty.

What do you reckon to them?

Only got them yesterday Martin, was blown away when I first listened to them but not so much today (you know how it is ). The powered woofers are a neat idea, linked to the crossover but variable, don't think I've got that quite right yet. However it was good to go back to my faithful old Tannoys, they seem to have more 'gravitas'. So I was trying to decide between amps now I've got another set of speakers in the mix.

    I do Roy, I do.

There's not much can touch a big Tannoy for gravitas though is there? They are playing in a whole different gravitas league.

I suspect getting the subs tuned in just right will make a big difference to the whole sound. Hours of tinkering-related fun ahead!

The Goldenears do the likes of David Guetta, Scooter & Gorgon City (some guilty pleasures...) really well but I don't always listen to them. Anyway got all the speakers plumbed in via the 2 sets of monoblocks & the 2 sets of balanced outs on my pre so I can have a wall of sound now

Well I've probably got a better sound system than the Circus Tavern, Purfleet but without the fat blokes with the tiny javelins..
