Geoff they are the lower driver is a dedicated bass unit the middle driver is a mid/bass unit and the tweeter is a seas crescendo also there is a downward firing port onto the plinth to reinforce the bass

    Default ProAc

    ProAc Studio 148's.
I've had them 3 to 4 months now, replacing a pair of Rega ELA 2.5's. I liked the ELA's, must have, had them for over 20 years! But am loving these ProAc's.

You can never have enough Valves !!
Hidden from sight there's a further four in the Phono EQ in the Black Box, middle shelf right and another two in the DAC, bottom right ;-)

Why did I know you were going to say that?

The Proacs interest me. I know they have a lot of dedicated followers but I've only ever heard one pair, little stand mounters; they were very impressive. Clean, with lots of 'sparkle'

    I love 'em.
With the two larger drivers there's plenty of Bass but it's not over blown. Being bottom ported this can also be adjusted by raising or lowering on the spikes to your 'taste'.
The Treble on these I wouldn't say was 'sparkly'. Very 'weighty', a cymbal sounds like a cymbal ! But they can be beautifull, light and airy when the content calls for it.
All round a lovely speaker, shame they've now discontinued them and don't offer anything quite like them. Lots of interesting speakers but nothing really to replace the 148's.

I'm enjoying this thread. Lots of interesting speakers. A recent swap has led to ATC.

Just about run in now and enjoying them immensely.
Pioneer S-2EX with and with out covers, still not sure which I prefer.
These are big and heavy stand mounts and the finish is second to none.

^ Interesting. Is that a dual concentric mid/tweeter driver, Paul?

I prefer them without the covers.

EDIT: ah, OK - I see they are TAD coaxial drivers.
