Default Ortofon SPU On 9'' Arms

I've got an itch to try an SPU on my 9'' Jelco arm. Seeing as there is no adjustment for overhang I'm wondering if the geometry is suitable . Looking online it seems that they are generally partnered with 12 inchers.

Anyone tried them on the shorter arm?

I have used SPU on more 9 or 10 inch arms than 12 inch. No problems.

There are some here who have used SPU with 9 inch arms - Marco for instance.

    I've got 12 inches but I don't use it as a rule..

I would be weary of using any integrated headshell cartridge (such as the Ortofon SPU) in an arm without provision to adjust the overhang. Since you cannot adjust the overhang within the headshell, you need to use an arm where the overhang can be adjusted at the arm base - such as the SME 3009 or 3012, or any of the later 'R' series.

The effective length of the arm is largely irrelevant: I've used SPUs in both 9" and 12" SME arms.
