Default Pre amp to match a Quad 909

Bit of an Impulse purchase as I've read lots about them but never heard one. It'll be used with Harbeth P3ESRs. Any experience of pre amp matching and what works best? Budget upto say £600.

Thanks Dave, I wondered if a Croft would work. I'm not very knowledgeable about electrically matching pre and powers to avoid too much gain etc.

Quad amplifiers work well with passive pre-amps. There are some rather decent ones about.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

I normally can't get on with solid state amps on first listen, I have to adjust, but I've sunk into this straight away. Could save me a blimmin' fortune!
